Mangrove Paradise

A visit to Corkscrew Swamp Santuary in southwest Florida inspired this painting of a green heron perched on a mangrove branch, patiently waiting for just the right sized morsel to swim by. Although there were many varieties of birds present, on that particular day I seemed drawn to this quiet and unassuming, adept hunter. The lively reflections of mangroves, cypress trees and filtered sunlight created a contrast to the serenely quiet water and statuesque heron. I half believed that if I lingered long enough, I too, like the green heron, might become hypnotized by the undulating reflections, as if under a magical spell in this mangrove paradise.
